Julie and I have been married more than three decades, and we’ve raised our five children here in the Fiddyment Farms neighborhood of West Roseville.
All five graduated from Oakmont High School — the very schools I now work every day to protect and improve.
Julie
Julie has always led by example. She went from classroom volunteer and PTA president to a two-term trustee on the Roseville City School District board, championing kids and families at the elementary level while I served at the high-school level. Ours has always been a two-public-servant household — and our children grew up understanding that community is something you give back to.
Five kids, five paths
Two sets of twins, our youngest — and our bonus son.
Studied at San Diego State and earned her master’s at the University of San Diego, where she now works at the Knauss School of Business.
Earned her bachelor’s and master’s in education at Grand Canyon University and now teaches second grade in Phoenix, Arizona.
An Eagle Scout who earned dual bachelor’s degrees in public policy and psychology from Jessup University; he now works full-time in public policy in Washington, D.C.
Cheered and competed at Sacramento State before graduating from Jessup University in criminal justice. Now married to Cameron, living in Citrus Heights, and working for PG&E.
Studying psychology at Jessup University, including a year abroad at The American College of Thessaloniki in Greece.
Samantha’s high-school sweetheart — he played football for Casa Roble against Peter Jr.’s Oakmont team while Samantha cheered. He’s in the final year of a commercial electrician apprenticeship and will graduate in May.
These five — and now a son-in-law in Cameron — are the reason I care so much about our schools. I’ve had the joy of personally handing three of them their diplomas at their Oakmont graduations. When I say we should put students and families first, I mean it the way any parent would.
