The promises I made in 2020 — and exactly how I kept them.
I made you some promises in 2020. Consider this the receipt.
You shouldn’t have to take a candidate’s word for it. So here is each promise I made when I first ran — in my own words at the time — right next to what I actually did about it.
Safely Reopen Our Schools
“The best place for our children to learn is on our campuses and in the classroom… I will ensure our campuses are safe… so that they can get back to school… building social skills, team learning… music, art, science, and sports… educating the whole student.” — Pete Constant, 2020 campaign
My very first vote as a trustee, on December 14, 2020, was to get our students safely back into the classroom, making us the first district in Placer County to reopen — a promise kept on day one, grounded in a careful, evidence-based review of the risks on every side. Campus Safety
“As a retired police officer, I know what it takes to make a campus safe… I will ensure that the district completes a full safety evaluation at each of our campuses… strengthen partnerships with our families, communities, other school districts, law enforcement, and our cities and county.” — Pete Constant, 2020 campaign
Exactly as promised, we completed a full safety evaluation of every campus and rebuilt each school’s safety plan. From there we wrote our behavioral threat-assessment work into board policy — a model we were invited to present statewide — integrated our campus cameras with local law enforcement under strict privacy protections, and negotiated dedicated deputy staffing where students needed it. Students & Families First
“Every decision made by the school board and the administration should be evaluated by its impacts to our children and families first… I will work to widen the circle of student, family, and community engagement. I will ensure your voices are heard in the board room – even if they differ from mine… to fight unfunded mandates, ensure adequate funding, and preserve local school board control.” — Pete Constant, 2020 campaign
“Students and families first” became the opening line of my 2026 ballot statement — and the test I hold every board decision to. I opened committee meetings, moved public comment to the top of the agenda so families are actually heard, and built a parental-notification policy through an open process that left people on all sides feeling respected. When we redrew attendance boundaries, the board changed the map in response to public input rather than rubber-stamping a staff plan. And I’ve kept working to protect local control and push back on unfunded state mandates — a commitment I’ve held since 2020. See Transparency →
Fiscal Responsibility

We’ve balanced the budget every single year, hold reserves at over double the state minimum, refinanced bonds to save taxpayers over $13 million, established a pension trust for the costs ahead, and delivered our capital projects on time and on budget — all while protecting academics, athletics, and the arts. Four promises. Four kept.
The record only grew from there. Once in office, I saw more that needed doing — so my 2026 priorities have grown to six, adding Academic Excellence and Governance & Accountability to reflect the work we actually built. That’s the standard I’ll keep: make the promise, do the homework, and deliver.
