Every so often a lineup comes together that you just don’t see. This is one of them, and I’d like you to be in the room for it.
I’m opening up my Bourbon Studio for a small fundraiser for my reelection to the Roseville Joint Union High School District Board, and we’ll be tasting four rare Eagle Rare bourbons side by side, from the 10-year up to the 20-year Double Eagle Very Rare.
The Lineup
Eagle Rare 10 Year
The classic, and the benchmark for everything that follows.
Eagle Rare 12 Year
Two more years in the barrel and a little more backbone.
Eagle Rare 17 Year
From the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. Released once a year and gone almost as fast.
Double Eagle Very Rare 20 Year
Twice the age of the 10. A crystal decanter with two sculpted eagles and a numbered certificate. A single bar pour runs $500–600, when you can find it.
Tasting a vertical is a lot like watching a kid go from freshman year to graduation. Same distillery, same mash bill. What changes is time. You’ll taste exactly what those extra years do.
The Evening
- A guided side-by-side tasting of all four.
- The story behind the glass: how Kentucky Straight Bourbon earned its name, how Eagle Rare came to be, and why Buffalo Trace is one of the most storied distilleries in America.
- Heavy appetizers and good conversation.
- Time with me to talk about what’s happening in our high schools and where I want to take them next.
Kentucky commissioned me a Colonel for my work sharing bourbon’s story, and I teach it as a professor at Whiskey University. I also serve as a trustee on the Roseville Joint Union High School District Board, and I’m running for reelection this November. Nights like this are my favorite way to bring those worlds together.

Can’t make it? You can still support the campaign — contribute at any level and visit the Studio another time. The Double Eagle may be gone, but I always have something good on hand. Contribute today →
